The day begin with an interesting trading experiment. We were allocated initial money and stock endowments on a virtual trading platform and trade across 3 trading horizons of 9 periods. The first horizon was my best try, I manage to arbitrage across the price movements in the first and second periods, and luck was on my side as I bet against the bear market. In the second horizon, the stock was revealed to be worthless at the end, so I only managed a little over 10% profit on my money endowments. In the last horizon, most people traded on the same belief as I do, so there's no way to bet against the market. Didn't earn anything in the last horizon. Overall statistics on profit, excluding the random binomial dividend payments from stock, is (13%, 13.6%, 0.06%). I guess I'm quite a risk averse trader hahaha, at least there isn't any loss! OH DID I MENTION THAT IT'S A PAID EXPERIMENT? $35 for 2 hours, pretty good deal isn't it?
The rest of the day is spent traveling to DBS, only to find that I have to go to a POSB branch if I want to re-apply for a MasterCard because DBS only has the Visa card. I ended up traveling to Jurong Point Branch and waited for almost an hour to settle everything.
Sent a few emails to different faculty members asking for research assistant openings, hopefully there's one available so I can actually learn some advanced stuff while earning money for the summer...
